Wind Monitoring

MET Tower and Enclosure

Firemaster’s Met Tower is a portable weather station used in a flaring application.  It has Satellite communications which report back real time data every 15 minutes to our server which then posts to real time websites.  This website is available over the internet.  Each company will have access to their own password protected website.  The consultant or client can monitor this site as well our DAC Monitoring Station will monitor this 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The Met Enclosure is part of the Met Tower which now gives a visual display of the flaring continuations. To do this we have added

4 colored LED strips

RED – Conditions are no longer meeting flare requirements – Suggest shut in the well

YELLOW – Conditions look to be conflicting with the Flare plan – Possible shut in may be required

GREEN – Conditions meet the Flare plan – Ok to flare

BLUE – Communication issue -This involves our Satellite link to our server for monitoring the conditions from a remote location.

The usual set up for a Met tower is Firemaster  personnel will deliver and set up the physical Met Tower.  Once on location they will stand up the tower and set up all the sensors and insure that communication with the server is functioning correctly. Once the tower is functioning they will teach the consultant about the website and how to access it.  The client will send us the flare plan and we take the data and the flaring conditions and  enter it into our website.  This website takes the live data, which is updated every 15 minutes to the server, and calculates if the conditions are still favorable according to the Flare permit and will light up one of the corresponding LED strips.  We call this a simple Go or No Go plan.  This is an unmanned piece of equipment.  Once the met tower is no longer needed at that location Firemaster returns to rig out the unit.  We strive to make this process as easy as possible for our clients.

Additional Features of the Met Tower Include:

  • Real-time wind speed and direction monitor.
  • Up to three simultaneous wind direction alarm points.
  • Audible and visual alarms both indoors and outdoors.
  • Mast height available from 40′ to 60′.
  • Optional displays: Historical data table and graphical plots.
  • Automatic screensaver that provides the current wind status.
  • Wind sensor: 0 – 234 km/h at ± 5°.
  • Very simple user interface.
  • Designed to meet the requirements of the Alberta EUB Flaring Permit.

Accurate and Reliable Wind Direction and Speed Readings

Wind speed and direction now plays a critical role in flaring guidelines. This system has been designed around the Alberta EUB Flaring Permit, making setup and operation very simple. A 60 ft. tower provides accurate readings of wind conditions, while the user interface provides both real-time data, historical data, and audible and visual alarms.
